Come Join Us!

The Glen Haven Area VFD is always welcomes those folks who would like to consider joining our organization.  We hold monthly training meetings on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Glen Haven town hall.  We encourage you to attend either or both of these meetings to get acquainted with the current members and to find out more about what volunteering involves.

There is ample opportunity for you to get involved in several ways.  As an active member of the department, you will serve a one year probationary period.  During this time you will have opportunities to get specialized training in structural firefighting, wildland firefighting and Emergency Medical Services.  Upon successful completion of your “in-training” probation, your upgrade to full-time active status will be voted upon by the membership.

As a member you will be involved in:

  • Structure fire and wildland fire incidents and training
  • Department fundraising activities
  • Emergency Medical Services and rescue
  • Community fire preparedness
  • Traffic control
  • Evacuation control
  • Helicopter landing zone setup
  • Regular vehicle maintenance
  • Fire apparatus and equipment operation and training

  • Training twice a month
  • Formal certification training for 1st Responder and Wildland Red Card
  • Additional available training for EMT and Firefighter I certifications

Many people find that the time required to participate as an active member is too demanding for their life-style, but would still like to participate in some way.  Our department has room for you too!  You can serve as a member of our Administrative Board of Directors, or on one of their special committees such as the Fund-Raising Activities Committee which organizes fund raisers and the Grants Committee which pursues various grant opportunities.  We are also proud to have an auxiliary organization which provides support to our Firefighters during extended incidents and also creates a wonderful cookbook every several years.

As you can see, there is room for everyone!  Feel free to contact any of our officers or members to get more information.
